NJ Shore House 1

NJ SHORE HOUSE 1

This project, located just a couple feet from Normandy Harbor faced a plethora of future issues due to flooding. In order to satisfy code requirements it became necessary to redesign the house such that it was elevated above the flood plain of a 100 year storm. However, rather than an annoyance, this needed update was viewed as an opportunity. New chances to embrace resiliency and to improve the feeling of the house were taken enthusiastically. The resulting design is not just a house for code compliance, but a house that far better reacts to and reflects its environment. The classic shingles of the upper level embrace the house’s waterfront location, weathering well in that area according to their natural properties. Meanwhile the lower level raises the building up delicately above potential floods, offering new balcony spaces and plentiful windows to experience the beautiful surroundings.
